One-on-one mentoring--20 minutes

Dr. Hitt offers mentoring in 20-minute increments of time. During that time, she can speak to you on the phone, answer several email questions, or spend the time reviewing your writing. Dr. Hitt can advise you on issues such as freelance business strategy, website design, or anything else pertaining to medical writing--this can also be extrapolated to freelance writing in general, so it doesn't have to be about medical writing.

To get started, email Dr. Hitt describing your questions in as much detail as possible. She will let you know within 24 hours whether or not she can help.

The charge for 20 minutes is $75, payable in advance.

Mentoring program--3 hours

A limited number of mentoring opportunities are available with Dr. Hitt. Her preference is to work with PhD students or people with an advanced science degree (eg, PhD, MD, or PharmD) who love science, love to write, but want to transition from academia or clinical practice.

In most cases, 3 hours of time will be enough to give you all the information you need to get started as a medical writer. The information is tailored to your specific situation and is given by Dr. Hitt based on her many years of experience in the field.

To get started, sign up for the 20 minutes above. This will enable Dr. Hitt to provide some suggestions (which may be all you need) and then you can decide if the 3-hour program will be necessary for you.

Upon purchase of 3 hours of time you will be entitled to the following:

• Unlimited email access to Dr. Hitt. Responses given during week days within 24 hours
• Prescheduled phone calls to discuss your career goals or any other aspect of medical writing
• Review and helpful suggestions for your writing
• Advice about your start up business materials, including your website
• Specific suggestions about ways to market your skills and get new clients
• Counseling about interactions with your clients, including advice about contracts and pricing
• A copy of all of Dr. Hitt's articles on medical writing (available for purchase online here)
• One month of advertising of your services as a medical writer on the HittList (goes to 3500 subscribers, some of whom are in the position to hire you)
• Potential for referrals to some of Dr. Hitt's clients and internship/subcontracting opportunities

How much does it cost?

Mentoring services are offered in 3-hour blocks of time. Additional hours may be purchased after purchase of the first 3 hours.

The charge for 3 hours is $520 (plus $75 for the initial 20 minute call). Additional hours may be purchased for $150/hr after the first 3 hours.

You can use all the time yourself or split it among up to 3 people. A good use of time is to have a conference call with all 3 of you on the call for example.
